Business Professionals of America is a Career and Technical Student Organization that connects education with professional experience. Through competitions, leadership development, service, and networking, students can explore their interests and put classroom skills into practice.
At Michigan State University, our established BPA chapter brings students together around a shared ambition: to grow into confident business and technology professionals. Our mission is to connect classroom learning with purposeful practice, encourage ethical leadership, and make professional growth a collaborative experience.

Chapter evenings
Proposed: first and third Wednesdays, 6:00–7:00 p.m. Eastern, during teaching weeks. A campus meeting room would be reserved before dates are announced; no room is currently booked.
Career skills studio
Rotate through résumé reviews, mock interviews, spreadsheet problem-solving, and short presentations. Each session would end with one practical takeaway.
Competition practice groups
Suggested focus: finance, business operations, digital technology, and communication. Small peer groups would practice against current official event guidelines.
Career conversations
Invite alumni and professionals to discuss career paths and workplace lessons. Speakers and university partners would be approached after chapter approval; none are confirmed.
Skills in service
Develop a volunteer project that puts business or technology skills to use for a community organization. Scope and partner selection would be agreed together.
Member showcase
Share a project, practice presentation, or personal learning milestone. Celebrate effort and improvement, and set a next-step goal.
Suggested meeting format
10 minutes of chapter updates, 30 minutes of hands-on practice, 15 minutes of feedback or small-group discussion, and 5 minutes to choose next steps.
Proposed conference preparation
Explore events early in the semester, confirm division eligibility with the advisor, create a preparation plan, and rehearse before state competition. Any national participation would depend on applicable qualification rules, chapter approval, and available funding.

Do I need to major in business?
Proposed policy: welcome currently enrolled MSU students from any major who are interested in business, technology, or professional growth. No prior competition experience would be required. Final eligibility must follow chapter and BPA requirements.
Do I need competition experience?
Proposed model: competition is optional. Members could focus on career development, community service, or leadership. Interested competitors would receive peer practice opportunities, with official event eligibility checked by the advisor.
What does membership cost?
Proposed budget: no additional local chapter dues, with applicable state and national dues charged separately once confirmed. Conference registration and travel would be separate. The chapter would explore fundraising and financial support; neither funding nor fee waivers are guaranteed. This is a proposal, not a published fee schedule.
What is the suggested time commitment?
Proposed baseline: two one-hour chapter meetings per month, plus an optional monthly workshop. Competitors could plan an additional one to two hours of practice each week near events. Actual expectations would be agreed by the chapter.
When would I join?
Proposed model: welcome interest throughout the academic year and offer onboarding at the start of each semester. Competition registration must follow official membership and event deadlines; expressing interest does not reserve a competition place.
